How we work

Keeping environmental welfare and ecological sustainability in focus, the Commission designs and executes programs and activities aiming to benefit the state's environment. GEC achieves this through various methods such as awareness generation among the public, civil and government institutions; engagement in research, documentation and dissemination of findings and lessons learned in the environmental sphere, restoration of degraded/degrading ecosystems and biodiversity conservation. Above all it functions as an advisory and policy advocacy body to the Govt. of Gujarat on matters of environment and ecology.

At GEC, we believe in applying integrated approach to problem resolution and policy making. GEC continues to work with a diverse range of people and institutions integrating their knowledge and expertise to develop and execute various programs and activities for the benefit of Gujarat's environment, biodiversity and communities. These approaches include community participation, community involvement in natural resource management, building nurturing institutional linkages, partnerships with NGOs and other government organizations as well as independent consultants.
