Rapid EIA for proposed Wharf construction

Abstract

Gujarat Maritime Board had proposed a port terminal, comprising of 300 m long berthing structure as a Wharf, by constructing a solid pre-cast CC Block where with a backup area cargo handling can be facilitated at Rozi Pier site of Bedi Port. The proposed private investors were JMBaxi (100 m Block Jetty) / Arcadia Shipping & Trading Co. (100 m Block Jetty) / Arvind & Co. Shipping Agency Pvt. Ltd., (50 m Block Jetty) and Ruchi Infrastructure (50 m Block Jetty). The proposed construction of the waterfront was to be in alignment of the existing 400 m long piled and 100 m precast cc block wharf. The constructed wharf will be utilized for berthing of the smaller vessels and reclaimed area will be used as a godown / storage for cargo. The proposed wharf will enhance annual cargo handling capacity of the Rozi Pier terminal by 1 to 1.5 lakh Million MT / annum and total cargo handling capacity will be around 3 million MT /annum for this entire 400 m wharf. The objectives of the study were; identification and quantification of environmental impacts, preparation of an environmental impact statement, preparation of appropriate Environmental Management Plan (EMP), outlining post project Environmental Monitoring Program and preparation of Risk Assessment and Disaster Management Plan.
