The one of its kind zero discharge 70 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant constructed at Jamnagar under the aegis of the World Bank funded Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project (ICZMP) was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat State Shri Vijaybhai Rupani on January 29, 2017. The inaugural ceremony was also graced by Hon’ble Minister of State for Environment Shri Shankarbhai Chaudhary and other distinguished guests.
The Sewage Treatment Plant was constructed by Jamnagar Municipal Corporation from ICZMP fund at a cost of Rs. 78 cr. is one of the significant achievements of ICZMP. The entire project has been spearheaded by Gujarat Ecology Commission as the State Project Management Unit of the ICZMP Gujarat along with the technical guidance and monitoring by the World Bank and SICOM, Government of India.
In accordance with the objective of ICZMP, the plant would help the Corporation in protecting the marine life of Gulf of Kachchh as well as safeguard the health of its citizens and maintain the aesthetics of the city.
Moreover, this model has been accepted by the National Mission for Clean Ganga, Government of India.
