Under the Green Skill Development Programme, Gujarat Ecology Commission – ENVIS Hub in association with Department of Botany & Zoology, M. S. University, Vadodara has initiated a four month course on para-taxonomy. Twenty students are enrolled for the course, which was inaugurated on September 14, 2018 by Dr. Ashok Kumar Saxena, IFS PCCF & Member Secretary, GEC along with the department head and faculties of Department of Botany & Zoology, M. S. University. The course details are as follows:

- Basic concept in biodiversity and taxonomy
- Floral diversity and endemism
- Filed surveys, collection, preservation, identification and analysis of fauna – principles and procedures
- Field surveys, collections and identification of flora
- Economic botany and traditional knowledge
- People’s Biodiversity Register (PBRs) for sustainable development (Faunal component)
- Wildlife (Fauna) Protection & Conservation
- Wildlife (Flora) Protection and Conservation
- Common course module on GRID-DSS and GIS
Opportunities to work
- Collection, preservation and curation of flowering plants and major animal phyla with scientific establishments
- Working with museums/herbariums for cataloguing, data base creating and maintenance of specimens
- Preparation of PBR documents
- Habitat survey using GRID-DSS approach, mapping and monitoring of flora and fauna using mobile apps and e-tools
