Eco-Restoration of the Mangrove wetlands as a part of Coastal Zone management of Gujarat through Public Private Partnership Model (PPP)


Objectives

  • To Study the existing mangrove structure in the context of shore line protection and stabilization by mangrove forest
  • To Identify and select the potential native mangrove and associated species for plantation keeping in view the ecological suitability
  • To Formulate site specific plantation strategy and execute it with the active support of port authorities adopting appropriate techniques.
  • To prepare a plan for long term conservation and monitoring of the developed mangrove forests.
  • To create awareness among the local community, industrial groups and other stakeholders in respect of mangrove conservation.

Description of project

Gujarat Ecology Commission is introduced Public Private Partnerships model in the filed of community based Mangrove plantation first time in the state, in which corporate partner is responsible for funding and monitoring, while Community Based Organization (A Village level Organization) is share the responsibility of project implementation and Commission played role as Facilitator. GEC along with CBOs had developed total 1490 ha Mangrove Plantation through active involvement of Coastal Community and corporate partners in the Surat, Bharuch, Kachchh and Bhavanagar districts of the State.
