Restoration of Mangroves in Gujarat (A CommunityBased Approach)

To Study the existing mangrove structure in the context of shore line protection and stabilization by mangrove forest
To contribute towards capacity building of coastal communities and Government for community based mangrove regeneration as part of integrated coastal zone management.

Description of project

To Increase Mangroves cover in the district, GEC has proposed a Mangrove plantation project to Ministry of Environment & Forest, New Delhi under. The MoEF has granted proposal to carry out 300 ha of Mangroves through active involvement community. The Commission alongwith Dandi Tavar Kantha Vikas Samiti, Dandi, ta: Olpad, Di: Surat (A Community Based Organsistaion) has developed 300 of Mangroves at Dandi, Ta: Olpad, Di: Surat through active involvement of community during the year 2007-08.
